January 12 – February 19
What is EPCOT’s International Festival of the Arts?
Disney’s Epcot International Festival of the Arts is a celebration that seamlessly blends creativity, entertainment, and culinary excellence. This annual event showcases a harmonious fusion of visual, culinarily y, and performing arts. Guests can immerse themselves in a world where artistic expression knows no bounds.
From mesmerizing artistic displays to interactive workshops and breathtaking Broadway performances, the festival offers a multi-sensory experience. Culinary enthusiasts can indulge in a gourmet adventure at various food studios, where each dish is a masterpiece both in flavor and presentation.
Artists and performers add to the vibrant atmosphere, creating an ambiance that sparks inspiration and captivates the imagination. Whether you’re a lover of fine arts, mouthwatering cuisine, or simply looking for a unique and magical experience, Disney’s Festival of the Arts is a must-attend event that promises to leave a lasting impression.
And if you’re there towards the end of the festival you’ll see topiary displays cropping up for the upcoming Flower & Food Festival.
I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the fusion of creativity and magic as we run through the food stalls, performances on hand, and the beautiful artwork sprawled on the property. I’m going to do a broad brushstroke over the other activities in the park, but of course, we’re Theme Park Bites, so we’re all about the food. Let’s jump in.

Things to Do Around the Festival
First thing’s first: pick up a booklet. It’s incredibly useful especially cause you won’t have this website at your disposal, and you most likely won’t want to. The booklet will have all of this information in a more succinct, pocket-sized form as you travel through the park. OK, I’m done. 😛
A lot of people think that Epcot is not the best place for children, but I’m here to tell you that even though there aren’t as many rides in this park, Epcot is truly a one-of-a-kind place to set your child’s imagination free and wild, especially during the International Festival of the Arts. With Epcot’s mascot, Figment, imagination is everywhere after all.
Paint-by-number Mural (11 AM – 5PM)
If you’re unfamiliar, don’t let this interesting and fun opportunity pass you by. Located in World Celebration there is a mural that you and your family can color in 3 squares of a specific color (each person) to help bring the mural to life. Adults are asked to paint at or above shoulder level so that small children have enough squares for their height and below. They rotate through (what I believe is) four murals throughout the festival so if you’re a local or staying for awhile check in a few times and see if you can contribute to a new mural!
Kids’ Chalk Art (11 AM – 5 PM)
There’s a hidden chalkboard on the way to World Showcase on the right-hand side meant just for kids. It’s a great way to get out of the sun and let your kids imagination run free with some fun colored chalk and their brains on overdrive. There is no instructor here so it’s honestly a free-for-all which can be pretty fun!
Figment’s Brush Scavenger Hunt
As a kid I enjoyed scavenger hunts and I know of many-a-child that loves them, too. You can purchase a scavenger map to learn about art throughout the park (which is part of the static entertainment in the park) and once completed you can grab a surprise gift from one of several locations (Creations Shop, Disney Traders, or World Traveler).
Disney Broadway Concert Series
During the festival there are also concerts performed by Broadway stars themselves. The artists represent songs featured from Frozen, Freaky Friday, Mary Poppins, The Lion King, Tarzan, Hercules, Aladdin, and Aida. There’s a performance almost every single day of the festival, so if you miss one, you’re bound to find another. You can find these performances at the America Gardens Theatre in the USA section of World Showcase.
However, there’s a special finale performance for the 10th Anniversary of Aladdin that I’m sure you won’t want to miss on February 19th.
Entertainment (Live and Static)
Aside from all that, there is entertainment galore of the “visual arts showcase” variety. From live artists painting to sightseeing artistic areas of the park, there’s something really unique around every corner. For the live artists, they’re scattered around World Showcase usually under tan canopies keep them and their paintings out of the searing sun. And while you’re looking at paintings, check out some Disney characters in artistic settings with the sidewalk chalk art as you pass by the Kids Chalk Art board.
At the cusp between World Showcase beginning and World Discovery ending, you can head over to the boat launch and watch Art Defying Gravity, an acrobatics group showing the many intriguing ways that the human body can be contorted into. It makes for a refreshing look at something most have never gotten to see in real life.
There’s also live musicians if you’re into that, too. And oh! Check out bronze sculptures around the park alongside artful photo spots inspired by famous artists (i.e., Frida Kahlo, Leonardo da Vinci, etc) that you can insert you and your family into the frame and bring it to life.
Exploring the Food Studios at the Festival of the Arts
The bravado of what I consider Disney culinary arts comes into full display during festival season. The creativity is abundantly clear during a celebration of the arts, though. With 22 locations to choose from and over 100 things to try (food and beverages combined), there is a plethora of things to try that you otherwise might not try any other time.

Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey

Must-Try Dishes and Beverages
You’ll find popular repeat items such as the Rainbow Cake, Char Siu Pork Bun, and Sushi Donut. However, less popular, but equally as tasty options come in the form of the Murasaki Blueberry Drink, Roasted Bone Marrow, and Sesame Balls.
This year the most popular items are:
- Deconstructed Key Lime Pie (Deconstructed Dish)
- Red Wine-braised Beef Short Rib and the Black Forest Cake (both at Pastoral Palate)
- Mozzarella Fritta (L’Arte di Mangiare)
- Chorizo and Potato Empanada (Encanto Cocina)
- Frozen French Martini (L’Art de la Cuisine Française), and the
- Tomato Soup (Pop Eats!)
Of course, everyone has different tastes, but I venture to say that if these are this year’s items of the festival it may be a green light to try them and see how they truly taste against your tastebuds.
Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine
If you’re uncertain of items to try during the festival, get your hands on that booklet (pictured at the beginning of this post) and flip to the back. If you successfully buy five of the menu items with their corresponding stamp, of which the Blueberry-Filled Pastry Tart with Purple Icing at Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey is one of them, you’ll receive a free festival treat (which I believe is a cookie) at Deco Delights.
So, even if you’re unable to do it all in one go, bring that booklet back so you’re able to finish the palette and get your free pastry!
Foodie Tips for Having the Best Time
If you’re a first timer (like me!), I figured out some basic tips that could make your trip go over well with greater returns for you.
- Oooobviously, check out the menus above and figure out where your tastebuds might sing (and an estimate of what you’ll be paying). It’ll shorten your time in figuring out what you want to try when you get into the park as your time is precious.
- Arrive early and start eating as soon as booths start opening up (which is 11 AM); give yourself yourself roughly 60 minutes for a dish to digest a bit which can give you about 12 food options to try if you get one at every single hour (except for closing time).
- If you can get to the park on a day that has a circle (especially for my passholders) that usually indicates lower crowds; use it to your advantage!
- If you see an empty booth, go to it! People most likely don’t know it’s there or the crowds are sticking to popular areas like Italy, France, Japan or closest to the beginning of World Showcase.
- Performance nearby? Stay away from that area for food as the crowds may be too intense to walk through, they’re most likey going to go to the eating spot closest to them, and subsequently you’ll find it difficult to sit and eat.
- Remember to hydrate with water, Epcot is great for drinking around the world but you’ll get dehydrated quickly if you’re not topping up on that H2O. Bring a reusable water bottle and ask for cups of iced water and refill it that way to avoid paying for water bottles in the park.
- You can bring food into most lines, so if you’re on a boarding group that gets called (i.e., Guardians of the Galaxy) just take your noms and eat in the line and throw away your items in the trashcan as you pass by.
- Split food. While these aren’t all shareable plates though (e.g. Vol au Vent @ France), when you do get your hands on a sizeable shareable plate, split it. You’ll end up spending less and you can try more food together throughout the event.
- These are mainly all tapas-style (snacks) dishes. You’re most likely going to need to eat a full meal if you’re staying in the parks all day and especially if you’re a picky eater.
- Take your time, enjoy the food, and try something new and out of your comfort zone! Yes, that includes the Roasted Bone Marrow at Gourmet Landscapes.
If you’re looking for more knowledge on what to do while at the festival, I dare say the best place to go is to the Disney Parks blog and to The Orlando Informer.
Critique of the Festival
Now, the festival isn’t all rainbows, I do think that having a valid and thorough critique of the festival is only merited when people are spending a lot of their hard-earned money. For a Disney production there is a lot that people are expecting, but there could be aspects that could be disappointing. I figured I would write out my thoughts and what you may want to be aware of if you’re new or are a regular who may think the same as me.
- There’s not a lot of plant-based, Vegan options. There’s literally two items on the menu explicitly flagged as vegan out of over 100 items and the more I think about it the more embarrassing that should be for Disney. I’m not even vegan, but I have plenty of friends who are for moral and ethical reasons and also for health reasons. Do better.
- Things repeat a lot between festivals; it doesn’t seem like they put a lot of thought into adding new elements and making each year a truly refreshing opportunity for people to want to rediscover art. However, as someone who has never been it’s beautifully done and I can see why Disney keeps to tried and true instead of constantly changing too much aside from the food offerings.
- Weirdly enough there’s not a lot to do in terms of art for the consumer. Sure you can watch entertainment, but there should be more opportunities to interact with the art outside of photo spots and watching live entertainment. If I had to suggest ideas for that they could add other elements outside of painting: pottery throwing class (for an extra fee), creating flower headbands that correspond with Frida Kahlo and flame throwing as live entertainment.
- After taking a look at the festival treat, which is the Artist Palette Cookie, I think they could come up with a new treat as this treat has been in rotation for years. But maybe I’m just wrong and it’s a very popular treat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- The booklet versus posted options in the park are different. Options I find in the booklet don’t correspond with all of the options inside of the park posted on signage (e.g. Refreshment Port in Canada shows Traditional Poutine on the sign, but it’s not in the booklet), I would have said it could have been a spacing issue, but no, the Refreshment Port page has ample space to add that one extra dish, however, I am under the impression that those items not in the booklet are regular items on their menu so there would be no need to put them into the festival advertising. Someone correct me if I’m wrong here!
The Final Brushstroke
I’d say that’s about it, really. Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts is a fun expression of life through entertainment, events, and yes, food. There’s something new to discover around every corner, so I hope you enjoy your time.
